Introduction to Fly Tying Class  | Thursdays, January 9  to February 27  |   6-9:00 pm

SP Fly Tiers will be offering a multi-week introduction to fly tying class from January 9th to the end of February, in the same area as our normal club meetings. This class is open to the public, and will be taught by some of the best and most experienced tiers in the Club. All skill levels are welcome, limited to 12 students. The cost will be $50, which includes materials and club membership.

The overall goal of this class will be to impart the basic techniques used to tie almost any commonly encountered fly, and to provide a solid foundation for advancing your fly-tying skills.  Upon completion of the class, the students should be able to tie functional and durable flies, that fish as well as – or better – than they look.

Contact Tony Stifter at: stpaulflytiers@gmail.com to added to the list or if you have any questions.

Calling All Interested Parties! Volunteers Needed!

The Brule River Sportsmans Club will be conducting a habitat project renovation over the next two Saturdays (July 20 and 27).

The club has supported this project in the name of our passed member and club board member, Ed Saindon.

I intend to go up and help out, and any able bodies are welcome and encouraged to come participate in collaboration with the Brule River Sportsmans Club. Please let me know if you would like to attend.

The project will consist of either the replacement of spawning gravel or the relocation of spawning gravel depending on the approval of a permit to do the work.

The project site is located near Stones Bridge on the Upper Brule River.

Anyone interested in participating in this project should contact me so that we can coordinate efforts between the two groups. You can email me at :   stpaulflytiers@gmail.com

Hope you are willing to chip in for this tribute to one of own.

St. Paul Fly Tiers Fundraiser

Fill-Box-Challenge

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.19.9″]

We will be filling two fly boxes to help promote the club and raise a few bucks for our projector, educational fly tying materials, and upcoming club expenses. These fly boxes will be on display for raffle at various functions this spring. We are also hoping to gather names for our mail list and membership drive with this raffle.

We are asking all that receive this email to sign-up to donate 6 flies. These flies must be something you are proud of, neatly tied, and your best effort. Please no rejects, left-overs, or junk flies. We are representing the Club and want to be proud of the flies in these boxes. If you are new to fly tying, give it a shot! Club members are willing to help you out if you have questions on tying a certain fly or are stuck.

We will be doing a trout box and a streamer box. We ask you tie and donate 6 of the same dry fly or nymph for the trout box. For the streamer box, it is OK to do 3 of one and 3 of another. Streamers should be in the large trout or bass sizes.

For sign-up to donate your 6 flies, please contact Greg Meyer at stpaulflytiers@gmail.com. Please indicate your contact info and what flies you will be tying.

Bill Spiess | 1928–2016

We lost one of our own recently. Bill Spiess passed away on Wednesday after a brief battle with cancer and other health complications. He was 88.

A member since the early 70s, Bill was a long-time member of St. Paul Fly Tiers, an awesome fisherman and innovative fly tier.

A fun-loving guy, Bill could often be seen as the camp cook at his beloved Cottonwood camp on the Big Horn River, or running from the bull at his “secret spot” on the Rush River. Trout in the Big Horn and Minnesota/Wisconsin waters can now feel safe.

Always welcoming to club members and integral to the fabric of the club, the “Silver Spider,” will be forever in our hearts.

Visitation from 3-5PM MONDAY, Dec. 26, 2016 at MUELLER MEMORIAL, 835 Johnson Parkway at E. 7th St., St. Paul with service starting at 5PM. Reception immediately follows. –

zLorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
