Board Election Meeting will be Thursday, September 2nd at 7:30pm.

Since Covid messed up a bunch of things for our Club, we’ve decided to hold a special board election meeting tomorrow (Thursday 09/02/21). This is in advance of our annual meeting that we usually hold the first part of January. We will be electing board members & officers, and discussing other items. Unless things change, we have one board member opening, and all of the officers terms are up, so those positions are open.

If you are interested in volunteering as board member or officer for the Club, stop by tomorrow’s meeting. You can nominate yourself, or you can also nominate someone you think would be a good fit. All nominees must be a paid member in good standing with the Club.

This is a great opportunity to give back to the Club, and the time commitment is small enough that anyone can do it.

Here are the terms for current Board members:

2020 SPFT Board
Officers (1-year terms)
President: (Open) Tony Stifter –Year 2
Vice President: (Open) Nate Gubbins –Year 2
Treasurer: (Open) Tom Muellner– Year 2
Secretary: (Open) Greg Meyer– Year 2

Board of Directors (3 year terms)
Eddie Rivard, 3rd year (Open)
Del Kauss, 2nd year
Randy Mark, 1st year

MEETING 7:30
North St. Paul VFW
2483 7th Ave E,
St Paul, MN 55109

Introduction to Fly Tying Class  | Thursdays, January 9  to February 27  |   6-9:00 pm

SP Fly Tiers will be offering a multi-week introduction to fly tying class from January 9th to the end of February, in the same area as our normal club meetings. This class is open to the public, and will be taught by some of the best and most experienced tiers in the Club. All skill levels are welcome, limited to 12 students. The cost will be $50, which includes materials and club membership.

The overall goal of this class will be to impart the basic techniques used to tie almost any commonly encountered fly, and to provide a solid foundation for advancing your fly-tying skills.  Upon completion of the class, the students should be able to tie functional and durable flies, that fish as well as – or better – than they look.

Contact Tony Stifter at: stpaulflytiers@gmail.com to added to the list or if you have any questions.

You can also visit the Fly Tying Class web page for more details and information:

Calling All Interested Parties! Volunteers Needed!

The Brule River Sportsmans Club will be conducting a habitat project renovation over the next two Saturdays (July 20 and 27).

The club has supported this project in the name of our passed member and club board member, Ed Saindon.

I intend to go up and help out, and any able bodies are welcome and encouraged to come participate in collaboration with the Brule River Sportsmans Club. Please let me know if you would like to attend.

The project will consist of either the replacement of spawning gravel or the relocation of spawning gravel depending on the approval of a permit to do the work.

The project site is located near Stones Bridge on the Upper Brule River.

Anyone interested in participating in this project should contact me so that we can coordinate efforts between the two groups. You can email me at :   stpaulflytiers@gmail.com

Hope you are willing to chip in for this tribute to one of own.

Colorado Women Flyfishers

Edward “Ed” Saindon Memorial Tie-A-Thon

The Colorado Women’s Flyfishers are hosting a tie-a-thon in Ed Saindon’s memory and our members can be involved.

As an avid fly fisherman, Trout Unlimited member, and fly tier, Ed’s family donated his collection of tying materials to Colorado Women Flyfishers (CWF) to support the CWF educational programs. CWF will use these materials to teach fly tying skills to women in the club and donate the flies to support the Tie-a-Thon.  www.colowomenflyfishers.org

The flies donated in Ed’s name go to a fantastic organization and are a legacy to his memory and to the children in this sport.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:  Tie (or buy) 100 flies of the same pattern and donate to the National “Tie-A-Thon” in honor of Ed.  See the list of flies organizers ask to be tied or purchased.  Submit the registration form to organizers stating the pattern of flies you have committed to donate (and t-shirt requested size).
Mail flies BEFORE APRIL 13TH:  Tim Scott, 711 Forest Ave, South Bend, IN 46616.
Questions:  timelscott@gmail.com or (574) 538-1936

ABOUT THE 2019 “TIE-A-THON:” On April 13th, fly tiers from various Fly Fishers International and Trout Unlimited Clubs from around the Great Lakes region will come together for the 13th annual Tie-a-Thon to tie and donate flies benefitting The Mayfly Project (mentoring foster children through fly fishing) and Camp Kita (a camp for child survivors of parental suicide.

St. Paul Fly Tiers Fundraiser

Fill-Box-Challenge

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.19.9″]

We will be filling two fly boxes to help promote the club and raise a few bucks for our projector, educational fly tying materials, and upcoming club expenses. These fly boxes will be on display for raffle at various functions this spring. We are also hoping to gather names for our mail list and membership drive with this raffle.

We are asking all that receive this email to sign-up to donate 6 flies. These flies must be something you are proud of, neatly tied, and your best effort. Please no rejects, left-overs, or junk flies. We are representing the Club and want to be proud of the flies in these boxes. If you are new to fly tying, give it a shot! Club members are willing to help you out if you have questions on tying a certain fly or are stuck.

We will be doing a trout box and a streamer box. We ask you tie and donate 6 of the same dry fly or nymph for the trout box. For the streamer box, it is OK to do 3 of one and 3 of another. Streamers should be in the large trout or bass sizes.

For sign-up to donate your 6 flies, please contact Greg Meyer at stpaulflytiers@gmail.com. Please indicate your contact info and what flies you will be tying.

R.I.P. “Big Ed”

Sadly, we wanted to share the news that one of our younger members and good friend, Ed Saindon passed away this past Sunday.

Affectionately known to many in the club as “Big Ed,” many of you may remember Ed from when he served as the Club’s Secretary for a couple years and Treasurer for a year. Ed had been an active participant prior to moving to Virginia (and more recently to Colorado) to continue his career in theater production and higher education.

Even though he moved from the Twin Cities only a few short years ago, he made it a point to stay connected by taking his vacation to join us annually on the Big Horn River. Ed was a friendly and good-natured spirit that will be missed by all.

The funeral will be on Saturday October 21, 2017 at 11:00am at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Lakewood, Colorado. The Church address is 7240 W. 12th Ave, Lakewood, CO 80214.

If you wish to send your condolences to Ed’s family, his parents address is the following:
Darel & Joan Saindon
205 Carr Street
Lakewood, CO 80226

The Club will be sending flowers for the funeral and taking donations as a memorial for the club’s memorial bench, which will be placed near the Rush River in the Martell park in 2018.
