Part of being a St. Paul Fly Tier is an opportunity to meet other fly tiers and fishermen, partake in social gatherings and attend events that may or may not be sponsored by the club.

Club Meetings

Club meetings are currently being held at the VFW in North St. Paul (2483 7th Avenue East, St. Paul, MN 55109). Meetings begin every Thursday at 7:00 PM. However, many arrive earlier for food and drinks. See you then and there unless notified by email about an alternate location.

SAVE THE DATE – Please note we will have a presentation by Gunnar Brammer following the business meeting on May 2.

Program Nights

Historically, St. Paul Fly Tiers Program Nights have been held during the first Thursday meeting of the month. These are nights on which we leave our bobbins and thread at home and invite guest speakers to share their expertise and experiences on topics related to fly tying and fly fishing. COVID has changed a lot of things; including this aspect of our routine. More to come as we develop our "new normal".

Club Outings

Nearly every month from March to October, the club organizes a Fishing Outing. These fishing trips encourage new and old members to explore the wonderful fishing that the upper Midwest area has to offer. Several trips are scheduled for the entire weekend, while others are single day trips to areas near the Twin Cities. During club outings we target multiple species; including panfish, bass, muskie and trout. We strive for excellent adventure and camaraderie with plenty of good food served to all who participate.

Other Gatherings

From time-to-time our club is invited to local sports shows, tying events and various social gatherings that members may want to attend. While we’ll do our best to post the things we hear about, please make sure to attend club meetings for the most up-to-date information. Of course, if you hear of something of interest, please be sure to share it with us at a meeting or simply drop us a note on the contact page.

Club Outings

St. Paul Fly Tiers tries to schedule an outing each month with the exception of November through February. The outings are at nearby rivers and lakes located in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. All members and their guests are welcome.

Typical Outing – Most outings have a mid-day meal; either at a restaurant or picnic-style waterside. Restaurant meals are normally at the member’s expense. The outings include stream and lake fishing for species such as panfish, bass and trout. Recently, we have added muskie outings to try our patience and stamina.

We try to have a set schedule at the beginning of the year, but due to situations beyond our control such as weather, flooding, fluctuating water levels and/or picnic ground closures, we may have to move or reschedule outings. We will attempt to give adequate notice on these occasions.*

We strive for excellent adventure and camaraderie with plenty of good food served to all that partake in the outings. These fishing trips encourage new and old members to explore the wonderful fishing that the upper Midwest region has to offer.

Several trips are scheduled for the entire weekend, while others are single day trips to areas near the Twin Cities. The weekend trips normally take more coordination and frequently require an RSVP while the day trips are more of the “meet up” variety where things are more casual; you arrange your own fishing partner(s) but everyone meets for lunch. You must arrange transportation or car pooling in all cases.

Lunch Captains coordinate the arrangements for the meals provided by the club. Membership dues cover the meal cost of the picnic and Brule River outings.

*If you have questions regarding club outings, please contact us and we will supply the information you need to participate.
